Eugene J. (Gene) Reilly

1927-2003

Eugene Joseph (Gene) Reilly, 76, of Marble Falls, Texas died on August 21, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Gene was born on July 18, 1927 in Orange, N.J. Shortly thereafter, his family relocated to San Antonio, Texas where he grew up and graduated from Texas Military Institute. He then joined the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II in the Pacific fleet. After the war, he earned a business degree from the University of Texas, and worked at the U.S. Department of State in Washington. He returned to San Antonio in the early 1950's to help his mother and brother run the family road construction business, Maupin Construction Company. Gene and his family moved to the Marble Falls area in 1969. Gene changed careers from being a highway contractor to real estate sales in 1978, and opened Reilly Real Estate in Marble Falls, with his wife Julia. He loved the land and lakes in the Highland Lakes area, and his vision for this area consummated the sales and development of numerous parcels of land. Gene brokered many transactions including the sale of the Meadowlakes, Deerhaven, Hills, Vista Del Rio, and Villa Vista subdivisions. He remained active with Reilly Real Estate until he retired in 1998.

Gene’s love for his family and friends was his greatest attribute. Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Julia McFaddin Reilly, daughter and son-in-law Amy and Daniel McMurrough of Austin, daughter and son-in-law Susan Potts and Steve Gibbs of Marble Falls and Austin, son Frank Reilly of Granite Shoals and Austin, granddaughter, Erin Leigh McMurrough of Austin, step-brother and sister-in-law Fred and Lynette Maupin of Pasadena, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  He was predeceased by his father and mother, Francis Michael Reilly and Louise K. Hausler Reilly Maupin, and his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Francis Reilly and Gladys (Cissy) Reilly.
